"I recently had a phone call from the Ikon Gallery. A curator there was putting together a themed exhibition and having seen a single picture of mine at an open exhibition in Wales, suspected my work might be appropriate for this show. I guided him to my website where he was able to browse through what is effectively a 10 year retrospective of my work, study my CV, exhibition history & read supporting texts. Without the site the same presentation would have entailed my sending a parcel of maybe 50 35mm slides, hardcopy CVs, statements, etc & the exchange of numerous letters & phone calls.
Within 24 hours the Ikon selected 5 works for an exhibition which tours the UK for a year. Without the website I can imagine I'd still be parcelling and posting slides". (2003) |
